⚠️ Important! A change made by Microsoft requires actions from Severas main admin user if the calendar synchronization usages is to be continued without interruption.

Severa's Microsoft calendar synchronization has so far been implemented with EWS technology (Exchange Web Services), which is an old interface. Microsoft has announced that from 1.10.2026 EWS will be disabled by default in all Exchange Online environments where it has not been specifically kept active. What does this mean for Severa's Microsoft calendar synchronization?

We are currently building a new calendar synchronization solution between Severa and Microsoft. Until then, our customers have two options regarding the continuation of calendar synchronization usages:

Option 1 – The company wants to continue using calendar synchronization

To continue using Microsoft calendar synchronization, the admin user of the company's Microsoft environment must perform the following actions by 31.8.2026:

  1. Enable the EWS setting in your Microsoft environment.
  2. When the EWS setting has been enabled and configured before the end of august 2026, the environment will be excluded from the automatic change made by Microsoft on 1.10.2026.
  3. See detailed instructions for configuring EWS settings on Microsoft's help pages: Control access to EWS in Exchange.
  4. Contact us Microsoft's customer support or your organization's IT department if you need help with configuring the settings.

Option 2 – The company will not continue using calendar synchronization

If the company does not make the changes required for the continuity of calendar synchronization in the Microsoft environment, calendar synchronization between Severa and Microsoft will stop working from 1.10.2026:

  1. It is possible to re-enable EWS afterwards. See the instructions in Microsoft's announcement: Microsoft Community.
  2. The admin user can manually restore EWS by changing the setting back to True status, but in this case there will be a service interruption.
  3. Contact us Microsoft's customer support or your organization's IT department if you need help with configuring the settings.
We ask our customers to contact us Microsoft's help in all questions related to the change as well as in matters related to the settings and required actions.

We are developing a new solution together with our customers

During June–august we will conduct customer interviews and a survey for users of Severa's Microsoft calendar synchronization. Our aim is to find out how companies using Severa utilize calendar synchronization and what features the renewed solution should include.

Based on the interviews and survey responses, we will gain a clear understanding of what kind of new integration best meets the needs and wishes of our customers. Our goal is to release the first edition of the integration by the end of 2026. We will update this announcement regarding the release date of the renewed integration.
