Programs

A program groups several related projects under one entity. You can group projects under a single program and thus get unified reporting and a consolidated overview of all your linked projects – for example when the same customer relationship or a broader whole consists of several separate projects.

The Programs feature is a separate add-on that is included in Severa’s Enterprise edition. If you want to enable the add-on, contact us Severa customer service.

What a program is used for

A program adds its own consolidated top level on top of individual projects. In practice, this means among other things:

  • You can see at a glance the schedules and progress of all projects belonging to the program on the program’s Plan tab

  • You define a common start and end date for the program, which covers all linked projects

  • You can set a common hour, travel expense and product price list for the program, which the program’s projects use

  • You give the program default data – such as business unit, cost center and customer – which the program suggests in advance whenever you create a new project directly within the program

  • You assemble a dedicated team for the program: a program manager, deputy program managers and other members who work across multiple projects

Relationship between a program and projects

One program can include several projects, but one project can belong to only one program at a time. A project can end up in a program in two ways: it is created directly within the program, or it is linked to the program later. A project can also be moved to another program or detached from a program entirely at any time – the project itself remains unchanged.

What is in the program view

When you open a program, you see its information on three tabs:

  • Plan – the program schedule and a consolidated list of all linked projects

  • Financials – the program’s common price list (hour, travel and product prices), if you have permission to see financial data

  • Settings – the program’s basic information (e.g. customer, business unit, cost center) and the program team

Who can view and manage programs

Programs are visible only if a two-level project structure (Programs add-on) is enabled in your organization. In addition, your own user rights determine what you can see and do:

  • Viewing and creation rights for programs work in the same way as rights for other main objects

  • You need edit rights to a program, for example, to manage members, projects and basic information

  • Being a member of a program does not automatically grant rights to all projects in the program; project-specific rights are defined separately
